Kristen Cheney
Dr. Kristen Cheney is an anthropologist and childhood studies scholar with over 25 years of research and policy expertise, particularly in the fields of orphanhood and international adoption. She is the author of Crying for Our Elders: African Orphanhood in the Age of HIV and AIDS and lead co-editor of the forthcoming edited volume, A New Era of Intercountry Adoption, as well as author of many other articles on childhood vulnerability, the consequences of charitable actions for children, and the politics of humanitarian interventions for orphans. She is most well-known for her explication of the global Orphan Industrial Complex, a political-economic concept that connects and unpacks these issues for a lay audience.
